Setting up the iPhone using Exchange ActiveSync
(iPhone firmware v. 2.0 only)

Introduction
This procedure walks through configuring an iPhone for synchronization with your SureMail mailbox via Exchange ActiveSync.

ActiveSync will wirelessly synchronize your mail folders, your contacts, and your calendar with your iPhone.

Note that only one ActiveSync account can be set up on each device.

Setting up the mail Account
1.     On the iPhone, choose “Settings”, and then choose “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”.

2.     Choose “Add Account”

3.     Choose type “Microsoft Exchange”:

4.     On the next screen, enter your email address, and then your UPN Login ID.  This Login ID is confusing since it can be one of several things.  This is some sort of Microsoft thing.

This  login ID can look like an email address (with an “@” sign).  This is the same ID that you would use to log into Outlook or Outlook Web Access. It can also be an “NT4” login ID. In Entourage, the NT4 ID is what you place in the “account” field or in the "nickname" or "alias" field.

See, I told you it could be confusing! As always, let us know if you need some help to figure out which one you need.

The “Description” field (not shown) is arbitrary, and can be left as-is.  After filling out the information, tap “Next”.

NOTE: If you have a wildcard set up in your DNS settings, you may see the following error:

This isn’t a problem – just tap “Accept” and you won’t see the error again.

5.     A new field for “Server“ will pop up on the screen.  For this, enter “outlook.suretech.com”, and tap “Next
The iPhone will verify your account information and if everything has been set up correctly, you’ll see this screen:
To ensure that your email, calendar, and contact information will be synchronized with the “Mail”, “Contacts”, and “Calendar” apps on the iPhone, set all of the sliders to “On”, and hit “Save”.

For additional options such as how far back to synchronize calendar events, and how many recent emails to display, go back to “Settings à Mail, Contacts, Calendar.”
