We're big fans of google docs, and below is a very nice explanation of the advantages of working in the "cloud," courtesy of Google.

 

 

 

The only problem with Google is it doesn't work with your desktop file system.  In theory you don't need your desktop anymore, since all data should be available to you at any time from anywhere.  This is definitely true if you have five and only five documents you need to keep track of.   But the fact of the matter is, the tools to organize all your documents in the "cloud" aren't mature enough to handle even moderately complex workflows or any significant volume of file data.
